Issue

When printing artwork that contains gradients with white, a thin white outline or jagged edge appears around the brightest areas of the gradient.

The outline is visible in the Raster Preview and is also present in the final print.

Changing the Choke, White Ink amount, or disabling Transparency does not resolve the issue.


Cause

This behavior is related to how the Choke function is applied.

When a pixel is pure white (RGB 255, 255, 255 or CMYK 0, 0, 0, 0), the choke is not applied. This is intentional to preserve perfectly white elements, such as text or fine graphics. As a result, gradients that transition to pure white may display a visible edge where the choke stops being applied.


Solution

Avoid Pure White in the Gradient

Modify the artwork so that the brightest color is not pure white.

For example:

  • Instead of RGB 255, 255, 255, use RGB 254, 254, 254.

This allows the choke function to be applied more consistently across the gradient.


Note: Depending on how the gradient is created and the color values used, changing the endpoint from pure white may not completely eliminate the effect.



Additional Information

Currently, neoStampa does not provide an option to force the choke to be applied to pure white pixels. If the issue persists after modifying the artwork, provide Technical Support with:

  • The original design file.

  • The print scheme.

  • A screenshot of the Raster Preview.

  • The neoStampa version.
